Biography


Betty Smith, 75, died Sunday, April 15, 2012 at the Madison County Health Care System in Winterset.
A visitation will be held from 2 to 8 pm, Wednesday, April 18th at Ochiltree Funeral Service, where family will receive friends from 6 to 8 pm. A private family graveside will be held at a later date. Memorials to the family will be appreciated.
Betty was born May 5, 1936 in Atheston, Iowa, the daughter of Welzie and Wilma (Walker) Parker. Her marriage to Lee Smith took place on October 7, 1952 in Maryville, MO.
Betty worked as a waitress for over 40 years, first at Grace’s Café and then for many years, off and on, at the Northside Café.
She loved crocheting and enjoyed watching baseball. She and her husband, Lee loved their family and revolved their lives around their kids, grandkids and great-grandchildren.
She is survived by her five children, Dale (Sondra) Smith of Jefferson, Gary (Lisa) Smith of Winterset, Jean (Craig) Wagner of Lorimor, Kevin (Tammy) Smith of Afton, and Steven (Jennifer) Smith of DeSoto; two sisters, Fern Burns of Parnell, MO and Arlene Carroll of Maryville, MO; three half-sisters, Lettie (Sonny) Kneedler, Sue (LeRoy) Benge, and Patty (Willie) Benge all of Winterset; 10 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren; and many loving nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Lee; two brothers, Jack Parker and Joe Parker; a sister, Venitta Robinson; and two great grandchildren, Hayden Bryan Smith and Colebie Kay Smith.
